about me
Well what is there to say? My first computer was a Commodore64 purchased by my father when I was five years old. I didn't do much Basic with it, but at the age of around six or seven I learned Basic on an Apple ][e at my elementary school.
The Commodore64 was a blast! I owned alot of games for the system and went through joysticks like it was nobodies business. It had alot of great games and tons of very good software. GeoWorks was perhaps the nicest office software suite I had ever seen at that time and made working with either a typerwriter or electric-typerwriter seem prehistoric. I used the Commondore64 well after its prime including for some custom work in Junior High School.
In highschool I learned Pascal and worked on the student newspaper. I did not fair well in Pascal but, nonetheless, it was alot of fun. The next language(s) I would pick up and learn wouldn't be until college.
I attended Allan Hancock College and had many great teachers there. My most respected teachers were in Discrete Mathematics and also those in the Computer Science buildings. I learned Ada95, C++, Fortran and Java while at AHC. Ada95 was the first language I sat down and actually studied in any depth and to this day I am very fond of it.
I then attended the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo -- CalPoly in order to complete my degree. My highschool and university years were pretty tough on a social and personal level, and my grades did suffer because of it. But, I met very great instructors at CalPoly that pushed me to excel. I enjoyed my classes on the Software Lifecycle (my focus in school), AI, distributed computing and Operating Systems. While at CalPoly I also picked up exposure to: C, various uses of Java, ML, Prolog, Scheme, Python, Ruby.
After school I went to work locally for an Internet Design Firm in Arroyo Grande, CA called M29 Technology and Design. While there I worked heavily in PHP, MySQL, SQL Server, Coldfusion7, Ruby + Camping and a dash of Perl. I worked on alot of fun projects over 2 years of emmployment with M29.
Recently, I have employed with the University of California, Santa Barbara. My work here has me working daily with PHP, Ruby + Rails and other languages as needed. I've also recently been exposed to a MacBook Pro which is OK so far.
I hope you've enjoyed learning abit about me!
